Gardening 101: by Zoe
In order to get the best flowers this year, it is important to follow some very simple techniques.
1) Everyone should have a small rake to losen dirt after a hard winter.
2) Once you've found a rake that is easy to grip and stylish, get a matching shovel to go with it. Good gardening isn't just about what you can do with the flowers, but what tools you have as well.
3) Eating dirt is never a good idea. Your grandma or your mommy start to freak out and make you drink water or eat part of a washcloth. While your daddy just laughs at all three of you. It's not pleasant.
4) Now that you have stylish, easy to grip tools, rake the dirt around the plants you've already planted and keep that matching shovel close in case you need to dig. I also recommend having a pot for the flowers that is just right to your height. You don't want to bend over to garden. That hurts your back!
5) After all the raking and digging is complete, it's important to water your newly planted flowers. Hoses tend to give too much water to the pot. I find getting a cup from a local pizza joint to be the best solution. Because it's not as easy to grip as the rake and shovel, have your grandma help you.
6) Let the flowers stay in the pot, without your tools, so they can grow.
7) Because flowers take some time to grow, it's important to have a chair that you can sit in to watch them. It's also a great place to keep your tools when you're done. If you can, I recommend finding one with Tigger and Pooh on it. They live in the Hundred Acre Wood and know all about gardening from their friend Rabbit! They can give you some pointers.
Happy Gardening Everyone!
